The Art of Social Activism: Film Screening and Panel Discussion
Sunday, May 7 beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Fitchburg Art Museum, 185 Elm Street in Fitchburg, MA

This program is part of Fitchburg Art Museum’s Paper Town exhibition which pays tribute to the city’s history of paper production, taking paper out of the two-dimensional into a world that is fantastical, intricate, colorful, and personal. Inspired by the materiality of paper and the metamorphic quality of the papermaking process, Paper Town explores paper in pulp, cast, folded, and cut forms. Join us for a screening of the film Marion Stoddart:Work of 1000, an award-winning documentary that tells the story of Marion’s activism that led to the restoration of the highly polluted Nashua River– a river that runs for miles through the heart of Fitchburg. Marion’s work led to the founding of the NRWA. Following the screening, a panel discussion moderated by Ralph Baker, Vice President of the NRWA, will feature: Marion Stoddart, Activist, Founder, and first president of the NRWA; May Babcock, Artist whose work is in the Paper Town exhibition; Susan Edwards, NRWA Board member and Work of 1000 filmmaker; and Nick Capasso, Director, Fitchburg Art Museum. The Fitchburg Art Museum and the NRWA are co-sponsoring this program; free with museum admission. Registration is required; register today.
